Eenzijdige facialis-paralyse en keratitis sicca bij een paard met temporohyoid-osteoartropathie

Abstract

Een negen jaar oude KWPN-merrie werd aangeboden met gedragsveranderingen en een linkszijdige hoge N. facialis- paralyse. Bij klinisch onderzoek viel een geringe scheve stand van bet hoofd en een cornea ulcus van het linkeroog op. De basis van bet linkeroor bleek bij palpatie warm en pijnlijk te zijn. Bij endoscopie van de Iuchtzakken was het stylobyoi'd in de linker luchtzak verdikt. Een computer-tomografie (CT) liet een benige proliferatie van het stylobyoi'd en de bulla tympanica, een fusie van het temporobyoi'dgewricht en een benige proliferatie van het pars petrosa van het os temporale zien. Bij postmortaal onderzoek werd de diagnose temporobyoi'dosteoartropatbie bevestigd. Aan de hand van deze casus wordt een overzicbt gegeven van de literatuur betreffende de anatomie, kliniscbe symptomen en therapie van temporobyoi'd-osteoartropathie. = A 9-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare was presented with a histo1y of abnormal behaviour and acute facial nerve paraly is on the left side. Clinical examination revealed a slight head tilt and a corneal ulcer of the left eye. The base of the left ear was warm and painfit!. Endoscoscopic examination of the left guttural pouch showed thickening of the proximal part of/he stylohyoid bone. Computer tomography revealed a left-sided prominent bony enlargement of the middle and proximal part of the stylohyoid bone and the tympanic bu/la.fusion of the temporohyoidjoint, and osseous proliferation of/he pars petrosa oft he temporal bone. The diagnosis was confirmed postmortem. The literature concerning the anatomy, clinical signs, and therapy oftemporohyoid osteoarthropathy is discussed.
