Abstract: A new vectorially-based definition of effective nonlinear coefficient lambda is presented and its validity is confirmed experimentally using a bismuth suspended-core fiber with the core diameter of 530 nm and measured lambda of 5400plusmn200 W⁻¹ km⁻¹.
