Mimesis and illusion in Nonnus: Deceit, distrust, and the search for meaning

Abstract

The article explains the personality of Roman poet Nonnus through his epic poem "Dionysiaca." It argues that Nonnus portrays more negativity than happiness due to the characters of the poem that show betrayal and deceit. The argument based on the content of the epic poem also discusses the issue on the religious identity of Nonnus.
