Abstract: Advances in arterial wall imaging permit direct visualization of the full burden of atherosclerosis within the coronary arteries. When performed serially, these studies have demonstrated the importance of targeting major cardiovascular risk factors and provide an important opportunity for evaluation of novel therapies. The findings of these studies, the clinical implications and ongoing advances will be reviewed.
