dc.descriptionAn exhibition of 24 panoramic archival inkjet photographic prints made from double-framed 35mm film making the negative width 70mm (medium format). The images depict active skies as emblematic of nature forming over the banality of corrugated iron laneways and a plethora of architecturally unexpected houses and factories below. The work is connected to the artist’s photographs of street scenes in Wellington, NZ, in 1963, similarly to street scenes in Adelaide in the 1970s and in particular to the comparatively deadpan series Canberra Suite, 1980-81. The Adelaide Suite, then, has a lengthy lineage in terms of investigating the nature/culture divide. It is a contribution to the recovery of engagement with nature, putting aside irony and deconstruction of the image in favour of a more emotionally subjective register, thus contributing to the post-conceptual movement while calling Social Constructivism into question.en
