Abstract: Stakeholder workshops were held in Adelaide, South Australia to explore means of building community resilience to heatwaves which, with climate change, will become more frequent, intense and lengthy. The workshops highlighted lessons learnt during the disastrous 2009 south-eastern Australia heatwave, knowledge gaps, and policy areas in need of development. Stakeholders recommended strategies for sound emergency planning and policy, and noted that a multifaceted approach is needed which incorporates broad-based heatwave education programs and community connectedness.
