Abstract: This paper describes an application of the Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) technique in signal segmentation of fault records. The segmentation is important pre-processing step required for automated analysis of data recorded during faults on transmission lines. The proposed technique achieves reliable and automated segmentation of three-phase voltage and current signals in pre-fault, fault and fault-cleared stationary signal segments. The proposed EMD segmentation technique has been tested using practical disturbance records and representative results are presented in this paper.
